Before, during and after the NeIC 2022 Conference, there are multiple related events taking place at Soria Moria or somewhere else in Oslo. Have a look at the list to see if these events are of interest to you!

Open forum by the NeIC Provider Forum

Time: 9:30-10:30 CET
Place: Utsikten, Soria Moria
Date: 30 May 2022

The NeIC Provider Forum is a group of national e-Infrastructure experts fostering deeper collaboration between the national provider organisations (DK, EE, FI, IS, NO, SE). The main goals for the forum are:
– maximizing the Nordic projects’ benefits and propose common actions on upcoming opportunities
– providing an opportunity to spar the ideas on the topics of interest for the National Providers and NeIC, e.g., European Collaborations and Research Data Management.
– enhancing the e-Infrastructure information flow in the Nordics.

In this open for everyone session, the forum will discuss the recent developments regarding e-Infrastructures in the Nordics and beyond as well look for solutions to enable the transition of services emerging from Nordic activities.

Energy-efficient Weather Prediction at Exascale - Community Forming Workshop

Time: Thursday 2022-06-02 12:00 to Friday 2022-06-03 13:00 CEST
Place: Quality Hotel Hasle Linie, Oslo, Norway

Onboarding and scoping of activities
The introduction of accelerators and novel hardware architectures (e.g., GPUs, FPGAs and CGRAs) for HPC promises large performance increases, but also requires substantial refactoring and rewriting of existing code bases. Bridging the gap between experts in computer- and computational science and experts in geosciences (applications) is demanding. Furthermore, code bases for existing operational model systems are typically very large and complex, and often written in a mix of different Fortran versions. This limits the available software (third-party libraries, debuggers, profilers, compilers, etc.) and makes the onboarding of experts challenging.

Topics
Successfully onboarding experts for “porting” of large model systems to new hardware architectures, strategy, tooling, methods for refactoring, etc. This workshop will be used to inform the later workshops with regards to scope, content, and participants.

Becoming a FAIR-enabling trustworthy digital repository

Time: 14-16 CET
Place: Lillesal, Soria Moria
Date: 1 June 2022

Research data needs to be managed as an asset if we are to maximise its value. Data and metadata needs to be FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable), and kept FAIR over time. The work to apply the FAIR principles to the data ecosystem in a practical way has highlighted the fact that data is dependent on its context, the infrastructure of people, processes and technology that care for it. The FAIR principles do not specify how digital objects are made FAIR or for how long they should be kept FAIR. Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR) requirements provide this perspective by defining the expectations for long-term digital object preservation.

This workshop builds on the work of EOSC Nordic work package on FAIR data. We will first present how to use the F-UJI tool to assess the FAIRness of (meta)data and best practice examples for FAIRification of (meta)data. Secondly, we will present TDR requirements, focusing on the core requirements as specified by the CoreTrustSeal certification and how repositories can in practice start their journey to becoming a FAIR-enabling trustworthy digital repository.

The workshop is organised by EOSC-Nordic. For more information, please contact Mari Kleemola at mari.kleemola[a]tuni.fi.

Galaxy is an open-source platform for FAIR data analysis that enables users to:

  • Use tools from various domains (that can be plugged into workflows) through its graphical web interface;
  • Run code in interactive environments (RStudio, Jupyter...) along with other tools or workflows;
  • Manage data by sharing and publishing results, workflows, and visualizations
  • Ensure reproducibility by capturing the necessary information to repeat and understand data analyses.
  • You will also learn about Research Objects and the Research Object Hub for making Open Science in practice a reality.

PlutoF is a Data management and Publishing Platform. In PlutoF, you can manage your full data lifecycle. From Data Management Plan to the publishing and archiving your datasets in machine readable format.

This is a training workshop on the usage and implementations of Galaxy and PlutoF tools
